Jim Brady started surfing in 1963 after meeting Jim Drawdy and Dave Miller at the Manatee County Beach on Anna Maria Island.  It was the winter of 1963, the surf was up, Jim Brady, 16, and Jim Drawdy, 21 decided they were going to open a surf shop.
